Sex Drugs and Rock n' Roll ....... Or Was it?

Put on the radio here at any point during the day and you will hear the latest music, as I did today. The usual slogan "You are listening to AT 40 with Ryan Seacrest" , at this point you are probably saying "please some one shoot me" well after what I heard today my sentiments are the same. In my humble opinion - that will receive solid backlash once I post this - Radio is dead, as a matter of fact music is dead. Its not like i'm not trying to find that new sound that moves me, it's just not out there.

People say I'm a prude and I don't listen to any new artists but the fact remains they will never be more than a fad and stuff, which is the truth! One that most people are hiding from today. Music in this day and age has become superficial, the lyrics have become superficial. 

Okay maybe I pushed it a little too far there and yes there are musicians and bands actually trying to make good music  Foo Fighter (Cause they are just incredible musicians but they have been for ages -Yes I will be a groupie- and their music matters, Death Cab for Cutie (though the last album in my opinion left a little to be desired, plus kinda hurt they did music for a crap movie like Twilight), One Republic to a certain extent still impresses me with what they have to say (though this electrical sound they have has to go) , Coldplay (Old Coldplay not the New Crap..... Sellouts)!!!, Seether, Rise Against, hey! and after what I just heard on a Beyonce track I'll give her props too just for that one song "Pretty Hurts".

So Maybe I pushed it by saying music is dead, Lets just say it has decayed from what it use to be. If you don't agree with me some put on any Led Zeppelin (Led Zeppelin IV) , Pink Floyd (The Wall), U2 (Achtung Baby) -yes I have included my recommendations cause well it's my blog - album and then put on, oh I don't know the latest party song or "Popular Song "that is playing god knows what it is and tell me which one moves you more ? I do understand that each person's tastes differ and not everyone likes the same thing but these people were real musicians they didn't need gimmicks (Gaga) , They didn't need a computer and no crazy idiots (their idiots were different, it was a Mosh Pit), their music didn't need any controlled substances people took those on their own, cause well it was the 60's and 70's folks comes on! The harms of those drugs were not yet as well known as today. You just needed Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton with a Guitar or Eddie Vedder just going acoustic and we were graced with brilliance. 

The Picture added to this post if you haven't guessed are from Woodstock 1969 still one of the greatest music festivals that has ever happened. as a child of the 80's and 90's I regret that I missed the opportunity to see it even though it was attempted in the 90's without the same effect. These days all I hear about is this thing called tomorrow land or tomorrow world sounds like an amusement park. Its like we are in a generation that forgot what this music did. Its goal was to bring peace through music, bring people together and it did. All tomorrow land is for people to get drunk, do drugs and just be morons cause hey that's how superficial we have become. Where are the real artist? the ones who want to show us what is wrong with the world, the ones who want us to change it, the ones who are in it for more than just the money and fame. Yes it was Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll back then but it was also "I get by with a little help from my friends", "Fortunate Son", "Another Brick in the Wall", "Hotel California",  "Kashmir", "The Wasp". People will now always post "yeah! you crib about all of this but you listen to Hip and Pop Music of this day and age also" and Yes! I will admit to that that the beat has been catchy and that is more to the producer than the artist. I highly doubt event the strongest debater can defend Lyrics such as "I started at the bottom now I'm here" or "Dali! Mr Worldwide". Well to End this all I can say is that folk just think about the next song you listen to. Is it for the reason that it makes you feel something or just cause it sounds good. Does it make you think about what the artist is trying to say or is it just nonsense spewed to sell albums cause hey! "lets get fucked".

On this note I will end with a song that actually speaks about something, the Eagles wrote this song to describe the harmful effects of Cocaine something Many in today's day and age have forgotten.

Music and the relationships it builds.

Well having a look at my last post and that was in 2011 its about time to start writing again. Yet today I'm not here to just talk about music. It more to do with music and the bonds and connections we make over it. If you ask one in two people why they are friends with their closest friends they'll say its the music. Most people in a relationship may it be just a platonic bromance its all about the music, just think about it. Looking back at all the different connections I've made over the years good and bad there has always been an element of music attached to. It may not be the main basis of the friendship that you both like it but at times just the difference in opinions can create that bond. 

Take me and my mate Shimmy for instance he's a kick ass producer and at times has the most amazing beats I've ever heard mixed, there is at times a Timbaland meets Pharell sort of Vibe that he gives off which is sick and if you get a half decent artist to spit on it, people would actually be in the club listening to acting like "I'ma get ma groove on to this shit". Yet when I listen to some of my Indie music at times he feels it's not interesting at all and the debate where we start of with music and how our difference of opinions becomes a good medium of discussion. 

On the other hand is well my ex (just like the famous mordern day fictional character we shall call her "she who must not be named" ) though our relationship didn't work out - for other reasons that are not a matter of discussion - there was one thing that connected us more than anything and that was the music we loved. We spent hours on the phone (Long distance at that) discussing as to how certain artist just gave that feeling you needed according to the situation you were in. We spoke about Death Cab, Nada Surf, we covered most of the indie rock genre. I even tried introducing her to Rap music (my attempts were well unsuccessful to say the least) yet it brought us closer.

Moving away from my example, one of the truest relationships I have seen in my life growing up my mom and dad, where there are still memories I have of my parents dancing to dire straights or my dad waking us up to some of the most influential music in my life. Deep Purple blasting through the house, mom playing Neil Diamond and those are memories you will never forget. Mom and Dad singing Rod Stewart while Baby Bro and I cringe that Rod Stewart should never hear either of them sing!!! 

Yet one of the finest aspects of how music helps build a relationship can be seen at any concert you go for. Stand in the crowd (cause well only an idiot would buy the sitting tickets) tens of thousand of people standing together waiting for the artist to come on stage sweating it out bumping into each other. The moment that artist strums the first string or drops that beat and everyone just lives in that moment for a few seconds or minutes shows you the bonds it forms gives you the true reason of how music can help form bonds. How you can have thousands of people jumping together in unison, shows you the power a song can have to build bonds.

Keeping that in mind here is the track of the day and of the year, one of my personal favorites for no other reason than this artist has the the ability to hold a crowd like no other. His tickets sell quicker than an air conditioner on the hottest day of the year. Mr Bruce Springsteen 

Will it still be there ?

Five, that's how old I was when I remember my dad putting the song on for me that made fall in love with music, Bruce Springsteen - Born in the USA, I remember listening to the song and just loving the tune. Now that I've grown up and listen to the song it catches me even more, "I had a brother at Khe Sahn, Fighting off the Viet Cong, They're still there, he's all gone". Music then was moving, it captivated you. Many might question where I am going with this?

Well this is a thought that came into my brain the other day when I was in the car driving my fourteen year old brother to the market. We had been driving and with the traffic in this country it can mean for hours because the traffic is terrible hence why I feel it is more important to have a good stereo in the car rather than all the weird things people put on it. We had been listening to radio and they had been playing some new song with a god awful farting noise in it, though it seem to have caught my brother's attention and he was enjoying it so I let the song play, after which I decided to Plug in my pen drive and listen to some Led Zeppelin, Bad Company, maybe even some Metallica and some new Indie Band I had found with a pretty good sound so I put it in and the first song that came up was Bad Company by Bad Company (one of my favorites if I might add) when all of a sudden I have this huge scream in my ear because I changed the music. Apparently for him this old music was not as interesting as Nikki Minaj's new song, which is funny cause the minute I put his music back on it was the same god awful farting tune.

So then I began to think will the music that I was introduced to through my parents still be there when I have kids (which is like a good eight to nine years away haha!) will they know what it's like to hear a guitarist like Slash or Steve Vai play solos that just kill it? Or will club music over powers years of rock's beautiful lyrics and melodies so that generations ahead will never know what it felt like to hear Hotel California by the Eagles for the first time and love it?

Some Might feel that I am tearing down modern music for no reason, Don't get me wrong I am not at all doing that. I understand that there are those who like this type and music and good for them, but all I want to say is that never forget the old guard.

Party Time !!!

Aight since the end of college for the semester, just been chillin. Partyin like crazy in KL and Singapore (and for the ignorant few that will say isn't KL and Singapore the same. No its not KL is Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia and Singapore is separate country altogether)and am off to India to party it up some more. The best part of Singapore was the fact that I went back to my old sneak spots, place where we would hide during school hours. Took photos, partied with my friend Imraan and Simon both legends in their own way. Now I'm back in KL partyin here with my college friends its awesome. Last night my mates brought booze and came to my place and we drank like crazy then jumped in the pool for a dip at 4 in the morning! hahaha Hungover this morning :D We all slept like at after 7 in the morning. So for such classic night its time to give everyone a song about this.

What I love Doing !

k There are very few things in life that I love doin, Partyin, Eating, Playing Basketball But nothing is more of my passion than listening to a song and finding it online. Recently i was goin through my One tree Hill Collection and I found a song and I really wanted it so went online checked what the song was and downloaded it.
